The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) was designed as a rapid screening instrument for mild cognitive dysfunction. It assesses different cognitive domains: attention and concentration, executive functions, memory, language, visuoconstructional skills, conceptual thinking, calculations, and orientation.

Thomas E. O’Connor has been certified in administering and rating the MoCA test.

MoCA test results are not providing healthcare professionals with a diagnosis, but rather with additional information that needs to be interpreted in the light of all medical and other information that such healthcare professionals have about their patients. As such, the test results cannot be the only measure used to diagnose a person presenting with cognitive complaints, and shall only be interpreted by healthcare professionals with expertise in the cognitive field and in accordance with applicable law (including the practice standards applicable to their profession and the limitations, conditions or restrictions applicable to their practice). In doing so, healthcare professionals should bear in mind that since other factors may come into play in interpreting the results of this test, results considered “normal” do not necessarily mean there is no cognitive impairment and vice versa.
